Someone on the call is engaged.

Asking good questions.

Every signal in the room points toward yes.

And then nothing moves.

Not because the fit was wrong.

Not because the offer missed.

Because the person nodding enthusiastically across the table cannot actually say yes.

Enthusiasm is not authority.

A closer who treats them as the same thing spends weeks following up with someone who was never the bottleneck or the unlock.

The deal was never stuck.

It was waiting on a conversation that had not happened yet, with someone who had not been in the room.

This is one of the quietest ways deals stall.

No objection raised.

No hard conversation to navigate.

Just warmth, agreement, and zero movement.

The fix is not a better pitch to the person in the room.

It is a direct question early in the conversation.

"Walk me through how a decision like this gets made on your end."

That one question tells everything.

If the person across the table owns the decision, the answer is clean and fast.

If they do not, the answer gets vague, involves other people, and buys time nobody asked for.

Ask it early.

Before the rapport builds.

Before the proposal goes out.

Before the follow ups stack up on someone who was always going to say "let me check with the team."

Nodding means the message landed.

Deciding means someone with the power to act chose to use it.

Do not confuse the two.

The prospect who nods the loudest is sometimes the furthest from the close.
